Inflation exceeds 4%.

The health and consumer price indices for October 2021 have been published by the FPS Economy and the inflation forecasts by the Federal Planning Bureau. According to the latter forecasts, the next overshoot of the central index (111.53) would occur in January 2022. But it could also occur in December if inflation grows faster than expected.

The Federal Planning Bureau (FPB) forecasts are published every first Tuesday of the month (except August) and are available on the site internet du BFP.

Based on the monthly forecasts of the FPB smoothed health index for the years 2021 and 2022, the next overshoot of the pivotal index (111.53) by the smoothed health index is expected to occur in January 2022, less than 6 months after the last overshoot of the pivotal index. As a result, social benefits would be adjusted by 2 percent in February 2022 and wages in the majority of social profit sectors in February or March 2022 to reflect cost-of-living increases.
